Our client is hiring for a full-time IONM Technologist in Cape Girardeau, MO. Position Summary Intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) protects patients by continuously monitoring the central nervous system (the brain, spinal cord, and nerves) when it is at risk during surgery; therefore, the IONM Technologist is a valuable member of the operating room team. Our team provides SSEP, EMG, ABR, and other monitoring modalities for ENT, spine, and cardiovascular procedures. They collaborate closely with nurses, physicians, and other medical staff caring for the patient by regularly measuring and analyzing the patient's nervous system responses throughout the surgery. And by communicating significant changes in the patient's nervous system to guide the surgeon and reduce the risk of neurological deficits. A typical day for our technologists includes the following duties: Preoperatively: IONM Technologist reviews planned intraoperative procedures and orders for monitoring to determine the structures at risk relative to patient history/pre-existing conditions and monitoring requested; makes needed adjustments in monitoring by communicating with correct personnel while maintaining patient confidentiality according to facility policy and procedures; communicates with needed departments to obtain access and scheduling of patient according to facility policy and procedures; prepares equipment and supplies for required monitoring of patient according to facility policy and procedures; identifies the correct patient by name, ordering surgeon, and type of procedure to be performed and communicates the monitoring plan to the patient/caregivers/family in language consistent with their ability to understand; measures and marks correct recording and stimulation sites and applies electrodes according to facility policy and procedures. Intraoperatively: IONM Technologist positions monitors equipment in the operating room to ensure patient electrical safety and communicates with team members including anesthesia, surgeon, and nursing staff according to facility policy and procedures; communications directly with anesthesia team and surgeon to enhance monitoring results; discusses with surgeon baseline recordings according to facility policy and procedures; makes any needed adjustments in monitoring according to facility policy and procedures; monitors neurophysiologic central/peripheral functioning throughout the operative procedure communicating with surgeon, neurophysiologist, anesthesia team, and nursing staff as necessary according to facility policy and procedures; recognizes clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results; documents in surgery log throughout the monitoring process all relative communications/responses, physiological status, anesthetic adjustments, and changes in verbal responses according to facility policy and procedures; discontinues monitoring and removes all monitoring and stimulation electrodes checking sites for pre-monitoring status according to facility policy and procedures. Post-operatively: The IONM Technologist provides findings, results, and a descriptive analysis according to facility policy and procedure; cleans/disinfects electrodes and equipment according to facility policy and procedures; restocks equipment and electrode supplies; prints needed documents including waveforms, neuromonitoring specialist report, and surgery log to be dictated by interpreting personnel according to facility policy and procedures; charges and logs patient according to facility policy and procedures. Establish and maintain timely communication with other members of the neuromonitoring team who may be providing professional oversight and/or consultation during surgery. Interact with surgeons and other members of the surgical team to provide interpretive data regarding the patients neurological status during the procedure. Identify and eliminate physiological and non-physiological artifacts in recordings. Recognize normal patterns, normal variants, and abnormal patterns in neurophysiological recordings. Understand the medical and pharmacological/anesthetic conditions that influence neurophysiological recordings. Understand the clinical correlations between abnormal evoked potentials and various pathological states. Record, troubleshoot, identify and interpret obligate neurophysiological signals, and report to the surgical team with options for specific interventions when necessary (e.g. stop surgery, wait and raise blood pressure, initiate methylprednisolone protocol, temporary break from surgery, remove instrumentation, etc.)Communicate neurophysiological changes to the surgical team, providing a technical description of the monitoring recordings as needed. Performs post-operative clinical follow-up, and provides follow-up recording as needed. Disconnect the electrodes from the patient following surgery and disassembles equipment. Follow company needle and safety practices. Display, label and print waveforms to electronic copy for interpretation and/or archiving. Calculate measures such as evoked potential latency and amplitude following established guidelines and protocols. Prepare accurate and timely IONM logs, files and work/technical sheets, including a technical description of the IONM modalities, with emphasis on clinical observations in order to assist with preparation of a professional report. Ensure that all required documentation is completed according to protocol established by the customer and management. Read, understand, and implement all policies and procedure guidelines. Inform appropriate individuals of inventory level, equipment condition, and general needs. Assist physician and other clinical staff members as requested.
