Job Title:        IONM Technician 

 

Summary: Incumbent provides the expertise required to manage intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) cases in an operating room environment, which may include, but is not limited to, orthopedic spine, neuro, and vascular surgeries requiring the implementation of somatosensory evoked potentials, transcranial motor evoked potentials, electromyography, spontaneous and triggered electromyography. 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the health system
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in English 
  • Minimum 2-year IOM experience 
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job 
  • CNIM Certificate from ABRET
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge, and physical abilities essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Ability to legally work in the United States (US citizenship, or work visa)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IOM experience with Craniotomy cases
  • Knowledge of hospital and medical center organizations’ policies and procedures.
  • Registration in EEG T (REEGT) or Registered in Evoked Potentials (REPT) 

  

Skills/Attributes: At the level of Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM) Technician it is expected that the individual show self-direction, initiative, and exhibit full competency with only general supervision. The basic and advanced elements of EEG, EP and EMG acquisition already should be mastered. Artifact detection/elimination skills already should be mastered. Advanced techniques are mastered and applied independently at this level, such as intra-operative monitoring of complex procedures. The technologist should be able to describe EEG, EP and EMG findings to junior faculty in a review style format. IONM Technologists must be flexible enough to learn new and advanced protocols when needed. IONM Technologists should serve as resources for junior staff. They are also expected to take responsibility for certain specific aspects of laboratory organization and serve as the lead lab team member in those individual areas of responsibility. The IONM Technologist will maintain registration credentials as a Certified Neurological Intra-operative Monitorist (CNIM). They are also expected to acquire continuing education units as recommended by the national accrediting body in the field, and keep up to date in changes and advances in the field.

 

Education:

4-year college degree, in science related field.

 

Compensation:

Salary range $90,000 to $130,000, plus benefits.
