About the Role
As an IONM Technologist, you will be part of the surgical team responsible for monitoring the nervous system during procedures involving the brain, spine, and peripheral nerves. Using advanced neurophysiological techniques, you will help surgeons detect and prevent potential neurological injury during surgery.
This role combines clinical expertise, technology, and real-time decision making. You will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and physicians to ensure accurate monitoring and rapid communication of important neurological changes during procedures.
Training for this position is immersive and hands-on. You will develop a deep understanding of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and multimodality monitoring techniques while gaining practical experience in the operating room.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring during surgical procedures using modalities such as SSEP, MEP, EMG, and EEG
- Analyze neurophysiological signals in real time and identify significant changes during surgery
- Communicate findings promptly to the surgical team and supervising physician
- Prepare monitoring equipment and ensure proper setup before procedures begin
- Maintain detailed clinical documentation of monitoring activity and outcomes
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and hospital staff to support patient safety
- Participate in ongoing education and training to expand clinical knowledge and technical expertise
- Support a flexible surgical schedule that may include early mornings, variable hours, or extended cases

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- CNIM registry required
- Strong interest in neuroscience, surgery, and patient care
- Ability to learn complex neurophysiological concepts quickly and apply them in real-world situations
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure clinical environments
- Comfortable working with surgeons, physicians, and hospital staff in the operating room
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with computer systems and clinical monitoring software
- Experience with Microsoft Office products
- Ability to learn new technologies and software platforms quickly
- Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking, standing, and sitting during surgical procedures
- Ability to reach above and below shoulder height
- Frequent bending, kneeling, and crouching
- Ability to push or pull equipment exceeding 50 pounds
- Ability to carry equipment up to 50 pounds
- Comfort working in a fast-paced operating room environment

This is a full-time, in-person position supporting surgical facilities in San Antonio, Texas and surrounding areas.
